Expecting?

Expectant Parent---that's the term most commonly used. I wonder, what are we "expecting" other than a child? Such an odd term. It doesn't sound as appropriate as "hopeful parent" but it sure beats more accurate phrases like "nervous parent," "anxious parent," "terrified parent..." I'm not sure how I feel about labels like this. Perhaps they all work...just applied at different times.
